Common Council votes to support MGE Shareholders for Clean Energy

On April 18th, 2017, Madison’s Common Council decided to vote their Madison Gas and Electric shares in favor of a proxy resolution submitted by MGE Shareholders for Clean Energy.

The proxy resolution calls for MGE to study the electrification of transportation in the Madison area. Electrifying transportation could help the city meet its recently adopted 100% renewable energy goal.

Alder David Ahrens brought the proposal to the Common Council and the council approved it unanimously after some public comment and discussion by Alders Denise DeMarb, Shiva Bidar, and Rebecca Kemble and interesting questions for MGE’s lobbyist about MGE’s position.

MGE Shareholders for Clean Energy encourages all shareholders to vote FOR the resolution. However, MGE’s Board of Directors included a statement of opposition to the shareholder resolution in their Proxy Statement.

MGE’s annual shareholder meeting is coming up on May 16th.
