Repower Madison Gives PSC a Lump of Coal for its Holiday Approval of MGE’s 82% Fee Hike

Consumer advocacy group Repower Madison is giving the state Public Service Commission, well, a lump of coal… for its approval of a Madison Gas & Electric price hike over the holidays.

“MGE’s CEO Gary Wolter betrayed the Madison community by pushing this regressive and hugely unpopular billing scheme that is favored by big coal and the national utility lobby,” Mitch Brey of RePower Madison said in a statement.  The PSC made their unpopular decisions under the cover of the holidays, Brey charged. Commissioners voted for the decision the day before Thanksgiving and the official order was issued two days before Christmas “in an obvious effort to reduce public outrage,” Brey said.
